A typical Property Survey is
the process of identification of the legal boundary between land owners.
The property survey is regulated by all 50 States in the United States. The act of measuring for the purpose of identifying a property line requires a license issued by the State. The reason surveying is regulated by the State is that the property line requires knowledge of the Science of Measurment, the Law of Boundaries, and expertise in gathering records and documents pertaining to legal boundaries. The surveyor then evaluates the measurements, records and documents, with respect to the law to identify the property line.
